This is the first time I got to decorate our new house for fall and Halloween! I always wait until the first of October before I add any Halloween decorations but it was really hard to wait this year. This year was also the first time I got to decorate with my son and it was SO MUCH FUN! He had all of these cute little expressions to the fake spiders (eww), skulls and black crows. I think decorating for Christmas will be a lot of fun this year. 🙂
In my Halloween inspiration post I shared these easy DIY bats. You simply trace the shape of a bat on black construction paper, cut them out, and tape them up! I would suggest making your bats different sizes.
I still love my easy DIY tie up kitchen shades! They are perfect for Halloween. You can read how I made those here.
I created this BOO sign a few years ago, back when I used to be super crafty. 🙂 They are wooden letters I got from JoAnn’s, then I Modge Podged scrapbook paper on top.
I have already shared my love for the little green cabinet that I painted over the summer. A while back, I went a little crazy at Michael’s and bought a ton of their skulls and crows. They add a fun spooky touch. 🙂 When I hang my cobwebs up (IDK why I bother when there seem to be plenty of real webs around), I try to pull it apart as much as possible to make it look real.
One of my favorite Halloween decorations is the witch hat that I made myself! It really just involved a lot of hot glue, some cardboard, some black fabric and fill. I think I kind of got lucky that it turned out as well as it did. The ribbon helped to hide a lot.
I usually try to reduce the clutter and decor items I have up, but I feel like haunted houses seem to have extra clutter, like books and jars and skulls, that give it an old haunted mansion feel. Hence the look I was going for on our mantle. Add in a few lanterns, some pumpkins, and cobwebs and you have a pretty spooky Halloween look!
