Our Master Bedroom

Our master bedroom is one of the first rooms in the new house that we have *mostly* completed.  There’s still the nail holes in the trim that need to be filled otherwise, it’s done!

To give you an idea of what we started with, here is a “before” picture.  This is actually the picture posted on the realtor website when the house was listed.

In this room, we had the carpets ripped out and hardwood put down to match the rest of the house.  We also had the ceiling retextured.  Here are a couple of pictures that I took as we were getting ready to paint before we moved in.

We lived without blinds or curtains on the windows for the first 7-8 months. That took a little to get used to, but came to be something we loved waking up to.  It is such a beautiful view with the trees surrounding us, and breathtaking when you wake up in the winter to snow on the ground.  A big difference from our old house in the subdivision where our view was of our 8 neighbors to the back of us.

The curtains are the IKEA Lenda curtains ($25 for 2 panels!). These are awesome because they come in longer lengths so that you can hang them closer to the ceiling.  They’re pretty thick too. I shared how to easily hem the curtains in this post.  We purchased the curtain rods from Amazon.

During the hot summers, we typically just sleep under sheets, so an easy way to keep the comforter out of the way is in this HUGE basket I found for a great deal at Marshall’s!  It had gotten to the point where we were kicking the comforter off every night, and waking in the morning to it on the floor.

When we finally got around to hanging pictures, one of the first things I wanted hung up were these pictures.  I had kept this picture from Thrifty Decor Chick’s bedroom for inspiration. I have been following her for years and love her style!  Can you guess where I found the fiddle fig?? IKEA! It is real, so *crossing my fingers* I can keep it alive! It was a great deal that I couldn’t pass up – $20!! That’s almost unheard of.  I have seen faux fiddle figs for over $100! That’s insane.  And way out of my budget for a fake plant.

We’ve had our bedroom furniture ever since we moved in together 9 years ago.  My husband bought it from an older lady.  We have talked for years about buying a new set or making over this set for about 8 of those years.  It’s actually starting to grow on me though!  Brass handles are coming back in style, right?!

We did purchase a king-sized bed awhile back (BEST decision ever), and the headboard for our bedroom set is for a full/queen.  Joe has talked about building a headboard, but it is on a long to-do list that we currently have running!

Oh, that little stool at the end of our bed? Its sole purpose is to help our elderly dogs get into bed. 🙂 Anyone else make accommodations just for their pets??

We love our new bedroom.  Once we hung the curtains, Joe said, “Ah! Feels like home!”  It’s our dogs’ favorite spot for a nap!
